How do I fight the anti-aging battle
frivolous pleasures, what point was there in denying myself of them?
-- M. Proust
Hello everybody, and welcome to my blog. I hope you will find it a friendly place and will visit often. First let me introduce myself:
This is me – the anti-aging warrior! I am happily married with five children and five grandchildren. I was born in Lancashire in England, but now live in Kent – also in England.
I went to school in Somerset and Gloucestershire, to college in London, and earned my B.Sc with the Open University in 2003.
I worked in offices for many years as a PA/Senior Secretary/Manager, and then became a foster carer, caring for children between the ages of 5 days and 16 years.
I also opened a Mother and Baby residential unit in my home, helping new Mums to bond with and care for their children.
I have spent a large part of my life caring for the young, now that I am at an age which would (not so long ago) have been considered positively ancient, I am turning my attention to helping others realise that growing old is not the end of the world.
It’s not the actual growing old that bothers me. There’s nothing anyone can do about that. But I intend to do all I can to prevent myself from ever looking as old as I actually am – I certainly don’t feel it!
What started me off on my anti-aging war? The modern idea is to start in your twenties, and if you think to do it then – fantastic! I never gave it a thought until, a couple of years after I stopped fostering, I looked in the mirror one day and thought to myself “Oh my goodness, I’m turning into a prune!
You know the feeling, I’m sure. It happens to all of us, men and women both.
What did I do? I dashed out and bought the largest pot of moisturiser I could afford and sloshed it very generously all over my face, neck and cleavage. There, I thought, now I’m on the path to eternal youth! Well, I always was an incurable optimist.
Your skin is the first telltale sign of getting old. There’s no way you can stop the ageing process but there’s no reason why you can’t fight it, tooth and nail!
Usually, wrinkles appear when the skin has already lost it’s elasticity and firmness. Harmful effects of the sun and other environmental factors help to bring this about. It is also brought about by the loss of fatty tissues in the skin’s innermost layer. This is why medical and skin experts maintain that applying the right kind of cream is good for the skin’s regeneration process.
Good skin creams consist of substances that help the skin to regenerate lost fatty tissues and elasticity. They have special components that stimulate the skin to produce collagen and elasticity. These two elements are responsible for the restoration of the moisturizing ability of the skin.
However, not all skin creams are created equal. There are some factors that need to be considered when choosing a skin cream that will best work for wrinkles. Here are some of them:
1. Does the cream contain essential oils and anti-oxidants that will encourage the skin’s natural moisture?
2. Does the cream contain Vitamin C?
3. Can the cream be easily absorbed by the skin?
4. Is the cream hypo-allergenic?
